Two police officers have been shot dead and another injured in a violent confrontation in rural Victoria, Australia, on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in Porepunkah, a community located at the base of a mountain in northeast Victoria.
Reports said the gunman fled the scene and is still at large.
Police have not officially confirmed the number of casualties, but local outlets, including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), reported that two officers were killed and one wounded during the clash.
“This is still an active incident and we will provide more information when it’s operationally safe to do so. We ask people avoid the area,” Victoria’s police service said in a statement.
According to The Age newspaper, the officers were at the property to execute a warrant connected to historical sexual abuse allegations, though further details have not been disclosed.
