A violent attack has thrown parts of Katsina metropolis into mourning after suspected bandits killed a vigilante and kidnapped three members of a household in the city.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, targeted the residence of one Anas Ahmadu at Filin Canada Quarters, located behind the Steel Rolling Mill.
Witnesses said the armed men forced their way into the compound before taking away Ahmadu, his wife Halimatu, and their young daughter, Jidda.
During the invasion, a local security volunteer, Abdullahi Muhammad, aged 25, attempted to stop the gunmen but was shot.
He was later rushed to Katsina General Hospital where doctors confirmed him dead.
Confirming the development, the Katsina State Police Command assured residents that the perpetrators will be tracked down.
“We have deployed tactical teams and intelligence operatives to ensure the victims are rescued safely and the attackers brought to justice,” a police spokesperson stated.
The killing has heightened fears across the community, with residents calling for stronger protection against recurring assaults.
Local sources described the attack as another grim reminder of the growing threat of armed groups in the state.
Security agencies have intensified patrols in the area as efforts continue to rescue the abducted family and restore calm.
