Police recover cartons of stolen drugs in Niger

Must read

Police authorities in Niger State have recovered eight cartons of suspected stolen pharmaceutical products from an unfinished building in Suleja, police confirmed.

The discovery, made in the Sandaco area, followed public concern over the abandoned cartons, which were first reported on Monday evening.

Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, disclosed in a Saturday statement that the recovery came after officers swiftly acted on a tip-off from local residents.

“On August 19, 2025, at around 8 pm, our division received information that certain items were abandoned behind the Sandaco area in Suleja.

“Officers responded immediately and recovered eight cartons containing pharmaceutical drugs, including Amodiaquine, Sulfadoxine, and Pyrimethamine,” Abiodun explained.

The recovered products are currently in police custody, and an investigation has been launched to determine how the items ended up in the incomplete building.

“The drugs have been taken to the station, and inquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances under which they were stored in that location,” the police spokesperson added.

Authorities have urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities to help prevent the circulation of unregulated or stolen medicines in the community.
