A student of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP), Bauchi, has been killed after armed men invaded one of the institution’s hostels in the early hours of Friday.
The victim, identified as Mr. Samuel Mbami, a National Diploma II student of Mass Communication, was reportedly stabbed during the attack, which occurred around 3 a.m.
Eyewitnesses said the hoodlums stormed the hostel, broke into rooms, and unleashed violence on the occupants before fleeing.
Confirming the incident, the National President of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Bello Ibrahim Aliyu, described the killing as “a heartbreaking and senseless act that must never be repeated.”
“This is a grievous loss to the entire student community. What makes it even more disturbing is that it comes just days after a similar attack at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, though that time no life was lost,” Aliyu said.
He urged students of ATAP to remain calm and not resort to retaliation, stressing that the matter should be handled by authorities.
“We know emotions are high, but we must resist the urge to take the law into our own hands. Security agencies and school management must be given room to act decisively,” he added.
Aliyu further appealed to the police and other security agencies to speed up investigations and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted without delay.
According to him, NUBASS remains committed to safeguarding the welfare and dignity of Bauchi State students both within and outside the state.
However, attempts to reach the Bauchi State Police Command for official comments on the incident proved unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
