PDP declares three-day mourning for late pioneer chairman Aguele

Must read

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has announced a three-day mourning period in honour of its first chairman, Chief Solomon Aguele, who recently passed away.

The party leadership said the decision was taken to recognise the late politician’s role in laying the foundation for the PDP in the state and beyond.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, the mourning period will run from August 21 through August 23.

During the three days, all PDP activities across Edo State have been suspended.

A condolence register has also been opened at the party’s state secretariat in Benin City for members and sympathisers to pay their last respects.

Aziegbemi described Aguele as a committed leader whose sacrifices helped strengthen the PDP at its formative stage.

“Chief Aguele was more than a chairman; he was a unifier who guided our party through its earliest challenges. His legacy will remain with us for generations,” he said.

He further urged party members, supporters, and the general public to join in honouring Aguele’s memory by reflecting on his contributions to the state’s political development.

The PDP leadership assured that tributes and other commemorative activities would continue after the official mourning period to celebrate Aguele’s enduring impact on the party.
