APC suspends Gbenga Daniel over alleged anti-party activities

Must read

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has handed an indefinite suspension to former governor and serving senator for Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, citing anti-party activities.

Also affected by the disciplinary action is Kunle Folarin, another prominent figure in the party, who was accused of similar misconduct.

In a statement released Tuesday night in Abeokuta, the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, disclosed that the suspensions were endorsed by the State Working Committee (SWC) during its August 19 meeting chaired by APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi. Sixteen committee members were reportedly present at the session.

According to the statement, separate disciplinary panels set up in Ward 4 and Ward 6 of Sagamu Local Government Area had investigated petitions of anti-party activities filed against Daniel and Folarin.

The committees invited the two men to appear and defend themselves, but neither honoured the summons.

Instead, the APC alleged that both Daniel and Folarin resorted to intimidation, warning party members not to cooperate with the disciplinary committees and allegedly using their influence to pressure individuals into withdrawing petitions against them.

“The State Working Committee has upheld the decisions of the Sagamu Ward 4 and Ward 6 disciplinary committees which recommended indefinite suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon. Kunle Folarin,” Olufemi said in the statement.

He added that the refusal of the accused members to respond to formal invitations or submit written defences forced the committees to proceed with evidence from available witnesses and documents.

Party insiders said the decision was aimed at protecting the integrity of the APC’s internal disciplinary process and curbing undue influence from powerful members.

“With this action, the party has demonstrated its commitment to internal discipline and the supremacy of its constitution,” the Ogun APC spokesperson stressed.

The suspension of Daniel, a former governor and influential voice in Ogun politics, is expected to stir debate within the party and the state’s political landscape in the coming weeks.
