We’re treated badly, Kwankwaso won’t join forces with Tinubu – Galadima

Must read

A top chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has ruled out any possibility of former Kano governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, aligning with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Galadima said the Tinubu-led administration had shown open hostility towards Kwankwaso and the NNPP, particularly in Kano, making cooperation impossible.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today last night, the outspoken politician accused the Federal Government of undermining the authority of the NNPP-led state government by supporting the reinstated Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, despite his removal by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“How can anyone expect Kwankwaso to be friendly with the APC after the way they’ve treated us in Kano?” Galadima questioned.

“They are creating confusion by backing two emirs in one city. The responsibility of appointing and paying traditional rulers rests with the state, not the Federal Government.”

He further alleged that the Federal Government had deployed heavy security around the deposed emir while ordinary citizens in Kano continued to suffer from rising insecurity.

“In some parts of the state, people are being killed and robbed of their phones, yet mobile police are tied down protecting an emir who is no longer recognised by the state,” he said.

Galadima also boasted that the NNPP remains a formidable force ahead of 2027, insisting the party would play a decisive role in who becomes Nigeria’s next president.

“We are the ones who will determine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election,” he declared.

He stressed that Kwankwaso had never discussed joining forces with Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing ongoing speculations of a possible alliance.

“If anyone claims Kwankwaso has agreed to back Tinubu, let them show proof. If such talks were happening, I would be aware,” Galadima said.

Describing the former Kano governor as “the strongest political iroko in Nigeria today,” he recalled how Kwankwaso defied the APC and successfully challenged its dominance in Kano State.
