The Iranian government has carried out a public execution in Fars Province after a man was convicted of murdering four members of a family.
“One of the perpetrators of the brutal murder of four members of a family in Beyram, in Fars province, was hanged in public on Tuesday,” said Mizan, the news portal of the country’s judiciary.
Reports said the man and his wife killed a mother and her three children during a robbery in October 2024. Both were sentenced to death in February 2025, with the verdict upheld by the Supreme Court in April.
Mizan also disclosed that the execution of the man’s wife will take place in prison, though no date was announced.
Murder and rape are capital offences in Iran, which, according to Amnesty International and other rights groups, ranks second only to China in the number of executions carried out.
Public executions in the country are usually conducted by hanging at dawn.
