The Borno State Police Command has recovered and neutralised unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered on a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso, said the device was found by a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, who quickly alerted security operatives.

Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13 team from Maiduguri to the scene.

“In line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols, the area was cordoned off. The device, identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring approximately 2.2 metres in length and 30 centimetres in width, was found partially buried,” the statement said.

According to the police, the device was subjected to a controlled demolition before its components were extracted, with the operation concluded without incident.

The Command added that residents of the area were sensitised through Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) programmes, while assuring the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urging citizens to report any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest police station.
