Must read

A devastating fire has swept through Barbuma-Koriyel community in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, leaving two children dead.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, around 5:00 p.m., when a fire broke out at a residence while a woman was preparing a meal, according to accounts from residents.

Witnesses said the flames spread rapidly, consuming several wooden houses in the village before help could arrive.

Sadly, two siblings, eight-year-old Dauda Mohammed Shuwa and six-year-old Fatima Mohammed Shuwa, were trapped inside and lost their lives in the inferno.

Security operatives and emergency responders later visited the site. The children were evacuated to a nearby hospital but were confirmed dead on arrival by medical staff.

Their remains were released to the family for immediate burial after medical examinations were completed.

Speaking on the tragedy, a local resident expressed grief over the incident, saying, “The entire community is in mourning. These were innocent children, and the fire spread so fast that nothing could be saved.”

Meanwhile, fire service authorities have urged residents to be more cautious with open flames, especially in settlements built with highly flammable materials.
