The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has accused security operatives of abducting its candidate for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election, Princess Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, along with 25 others.
In a statement issued by the state chairman, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the party alleged that members of Operation Fushin Kada, a joint security outfit, stormed City Den Hotel in Malali on Friday in search of the PDP Campaign Council Chairman, Hon. Hussein Ahmed-Kero.
The party claimed that the operatives arrested Dawaki and several party members since Ahmed-Kero was unavailable.
“The PDP condemns this brazen act of harassment, intimidation, and insanity by the APC and demands the immediate and unconditional release of its candidate and all others being held hostage,” the statement read.
The opposition party, however, called on President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the DSS, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Chief of Defence Staff to intervene and halt what it described as abuse of power.
It also urged civil society organisations and pro-democracy groups to resist what it termed “a blatant attack on democracy and the constitution in Kaduna State,” stressing that its members would not be intimidated.
“The APC’s actions signal that the party is heading towards defeat, hence its resort to this show of force, akin to the last kick of a dying horse,” the PDP added.
