Kaduna security operatives have apprehended a man suspected of attempting to influence voters with a large cash sum ahead of Saturday’s bye-elections in the state.

The suspect, identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. at a hotel on Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other collaborating security agencies.

Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan confirmed the recovery of N25,963,000 from Patangi, which authorities say was intended to sway voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency election.

“Upon questioning, the suspect admitted the money was meant for bribing eligible voters and requested leniency,” DSP Hassan said in a statement on Saturday.

Kaduna Police Commissioner, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the coordinated effort of security agencies in the arrest.

He warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process, irrespective of political affiliation, would face legal consequences.

“Security has been reinforced in all sensitive areas to ensure the elections are conducted freely and fairly,” CP Muhammad said.

Authorities urged residents to participate in the elections without fear, assuring that the safety of lives, properties, and the integrity of the electoral process would be fully protected before, during, and after the polls.
