After detention, Tambuwal rallies supporters in Sokoto, vows to oust APC in 2027

Former Sokoto State Governor and serving Senator for Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, on Friday staged a dramatic political comeback in Sokoto, drawing an enormous crowd of supporters in what many see as a bold declaration of his 2027 ambitions.

The homecoming, which attracted loyalists from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, was marked by vibrant processions, solidarity songs, and banners calling for the removal of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power.

AFRIPOST reports that the rally was a deliberate show of force aimed at signalling Tambuwal’s readiness to challenge the ruling party in the next general elections.

Addressing the crowd of supporters, Tambuwal, who was Director General of Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign in 2023, launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of worsening Nigeria’s economic woes, insecurity, and political instability.

“We must stand together to end APC’s reign in 2027. Our coalition will reach every part of this country to ensure this government is sent packing. We will not be intimidated or silenced while Nigerians suffer,” he declared.

The senator also used the rally to address his recent encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), stressing that he visited the anti-graft agency voluntarily and denying allegations that he withdrew over ₦2 billion monthly from Sokoto State’s treasury while in office.

“My visit to the EFCC was purely voluntary. I was questioned and released on self-recognition. The claim that I withdrew such an amount is absurd, Sokoto’s monthly allocation isn’t even close to that,” Tambuwal said, accusing the state government of orchestrating a politically motivated smear campaign.

He dismissed the outcome of a state inquiry set up last year, insisting it had found no wrongdoing despite multiple sittings.

“Let them set up a hundred panels, the truth will always stand. I remain unshaken and resolute,” he affirmed, as the crowd erupted in chants of solidarity.

Tambuwal’s defiant tone and the sheer size of the rally have further stoked political tension in Sokoto, setting the stage for what could be one of the state’s most heated election battles in 2027.
