The Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has directed the closure of all markets, stalls, and shops in the city on Thursday, August 14, 2025, for the annual Aheregbe Festival.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael and obtained by AFRIPOST, the monarch said the directive was in line with the age-long tradition of the festival, which holds great cultural significance to the people of Akure.
He stressed that no market, stall, shop should open for business under any guise during the celebration.
However, pharmacy shops and patent medicine stores would be exempted from the closure in recognition of their role in providing essential health services, the monarch added.
The statement also clarified that the festival will not affect human and vehicular movement within Akure and its environs.
“The Aheregbe Festival remains one of the most important traditional events in the Akure calendar, observed annually with strict compliance from residents.”
