The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, has invoked the state’s Coroner’s Law, calling for formal inquiry into the death of Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.
Ajulo made the request in a letter to the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Honourable Justice Olusegun Ayedun Odusola, noting that available reports indicated the registrar died in suspicious circumstances on or about July 17, 2025.
He said the move was in the public interest to establish the cause and manner of death and determine whether anyone should be held criminally liable.
“Following briefing and information at my disposal, I believe that in the public interest, a formal inquiry in the form of a coroner’s inquest is warranted,” he wrote.
Following the request, Justice Odusola appointed Dr. Dickson Ogunfuyi, Chief Magistrate and Head of the Ondo State Multi-Door Court, to lead the inquest as coroner.
The development comes amid dispute over the circumstances surrounding Mr. Adeniran’s death.
“While some accounts claimed he ingested poison after being indicted and recommended for dismissal in a government white paper, his family maintains he was forcibly poisoned by unidentified attackers.”
Ajulo assured that the proceedings would be carried out transparently and in full compliance with the provisions of the Ondo State Coroner’s Law.
