Fresh tension has engulfed Yelwata community in Benue State after gunmen launched another attack in the early hours of Monday, leaving several people injured.
As reported by Daily Post, eyewitnesses said the development triggered protest by women in the area, who blocked major roads and demanded that soldiers stationed in the community be withdrawn to their barracks.
The residents also called for urgent relocation to Makurdi, the state capital, over rising insecurity.
“They should take us to Makurdi because the government cannot protect us,” one protester said.
The latest incident comes less than two months after suspected herders invaded the same community on June 13, killing about 200 people, including internally displaced persons, with many victims reportedly burned alive during the overnight raid.
