Italian Serie A club Atalanta has announced plans to pursue legal action against forward Ademola Lookman following the player’s recent refusal to attend training and unauthorised departure from the club’s premises.
Lookman, who has been instrumental to Atalanta’s attacking lineup, is at the centre of a tense standoff after the club rejected a €45 million transfer offer from Inter Milan.
The player had requested to leave for what he described as a “top-tier” club outside Italy, but Atalanta maintained a firm stance, valuing him at €50 million.
In protest, Lookman reportedly skipped several training sessions and left Italy without the club’s approval. Atalanta’s management has condemned the player’s actions as a breach of contract and professional obligations.
Sources within the club confirm that disciplinary measures, including a significant fine, are being considered alongside potential legal proceedings.
A club representative said, “We expect all players to honour their contracts and commitments. Any actions that undermine this principle will be addressed firmly through all available channels.”
Lookman’s camp, meanwhile, has argued that the club failed to uphold earlier promises regarding his transfer prospects.
The situation remains unresolved as both parties prepare for a possible legal showdown while the summer transfer window remains open.
This case underscores the growing challenges clubs and players face amid high-stakes transfer negotiations and contractual disagreements in modern football.
