Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked two staff members of Union Bank in Zamfara State, killing one and abducting the other before he was later rescued by security operatives.

The tragic incident occurred along the Gusau–Funtua highway on Sunday, when the armed men ambushed a GAC SUG vehicle conveying the victims and opened fire.

AFRIPOST gathered from sources that the victims are Zakari Leo, the regional manager of Union Bank Plc in Kaduna, and Muhammad Sani Suleman, both of whom work at the bank’s Yakubu Gowon Way branch in Kaduna State.

The attack happened near Kucheri village in Tsafe Local Government Area at about 2:40 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, Suleman was hit by bullets and severely injured, while Leo was taken into the bush by the gunmen.

A swift response from security personnel led to the rescue of Mr. Leo during a combing operation in the surrounding forest.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suleman, who was found at the scene, was rushed to the General Hospital in Tsafe and later referred to the Specialist Hospital in Gusau.

Sadly, he died from his injuries before reaching the hospital. His body has since been handed over to the Union Bank branch in Gusau for burial arrangements.
