One person was killed and eleven others were injured when a goods train collided with a tourist bus at a level crossing close to Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Monday.
According to Russia’s rail network, the accident in northwest Russia happened at 0300 GMT. The train struck the bus at full speed while it was on the tracks.
The railway statement disclosed that the train driver used emergency brakes, “but the distance was too short and he could not avoid a collision.”
It stated further, “Preliminary information indicates that 12 passengers on the bus were hurt, and one of them passed away as a result of their injuries.”
AFRIPOST reports that in Russia, traffic infractions are rather widespread and frequently lead to fatal collisions, with several occurring around the year.
