Katsina varsity slams over 50 students with expulsion

Must read

The expulsion of 57 students for engaging in various forms of misconduct relating to examinations has been accepted by the Senate of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina.

The institution’s Head of Information and Protocol, Hajiya Fatima Sanda, made the announcement on Saturday on behalf of the management.

The statement claims that the Senate made the decision at its 125th Regular Meeting in response to suggestions made by the University Central Examination Misconduct Committee (UCEMC).

It further stated that the committee had already looked into violations in several faculties before making its conclusion.

The notification also disclosed that five further students had their affected exam papers annulled and were rusticated for two semesters (2024/2025 session).

Two additional people were also given formal written warnings, which are now permanently recorded on their academic records, according to the statement.

In the statement, UMYU highlighted that the actions were meant to serve as a deterrence to others and that they reflected its zero-tolerance stance for examination malpractice.

“UMYU remains committed to preserving the sanctity of its academic standards and will not hesitate to sanction any act that undermines the integrity of its examinations, the school said.

“Students have been urged to adhere strictly to academic rules and avoid any form of malpractice, as future violations will be met with equally strict consequences.”
