A Taraba university lecturer has become the latest victim of abduction along the now dangerous Nigerian highways.
Engineer Joshua Saleh, the 38-year-old lecturer, was en route from Abuja to Jalingo with a friend of his, Emmanuel Haggai Bibinu, a 42-year-old businessman, when their vehicle was hijacked by a gang of four kidnappers.
Emmanuel narrated to security sources who related the incident to correspondents that he and the lecturer were travelling to Jalingo yesterday when they were ambushed by the kidnappers around 8:30 PM along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari highway.
The businessman revealed further that the assailants, armed with a gun and cutlasses, fired at their private vehicle, bursting the tires and immediately descending on them.
In the course of the kidnapping, Emmanuel said, the kidnappers robbed them of their possessions, including a Samsung Galaxy G10 phone worth ₦1.7 million and ₦83,000 in cash, before ordering them into the surrounding thick forest.
However, with luck and bravery, Emmanuel said he escaped from the kidnappers and ran to the nearest community he could find, Ikyior village, where he was rescued by hunters who later took him to the police station to file a report on the attack.
