The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
The SDP cited alleged acts of impersonation, forgery and attempts to destabilize the party by the former Governor.
The party also imposed a 30-year ban, barring him from participating in any of its activities.
In a statement signed by the SDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) said the decision followed a series of investigations into El-Rufai’s purported claim of being a registered member of the party.
The statement noted that the former governor misrepresented himself online and was wrongly congratulated by party figures before verification revealed discrepancies in his membership claim.
According to the SDP, El-Rufai never officially registered with his ward in Kaduna State as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
Instead, SDP said he allegedly assigned himself the “number 001” position in the Unguwar Sarki Ward register in Kaduna North Local Government, which the party labeled as a fabricated and fraudulent entry.
The party further alleged that El-Rufai sought to lend credibility to his claims by associating with suspended SDP National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, and other party officials.
The meetings, according to the NWC, were staged for photographic documentation aimed at reinforcing a misleading narrative about his affiliation with the party.
“In view of the undeniable fact of having publicly declared for the ADC, and his confirmed acts towards dishonestly dragging the SDP into their so-called coalition… Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai is hereby banished and banned from applying to the membership… for a period of 30 years,” the statement read in part.
