APC members demand removal of party chairman, stage protest

Must read

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos have staged a peaceful protest at the state House of Assembly to demand the removal of Cornelius Ojelabi as chairman of the party.

The peaceful protest, which took place on Monday, also saw the aggrieved members decry the alleged planned imposition of appointees at the 20 Local Government Areas (LGA) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) of the state.

Gathered in large numbers at the state House of Assembly, they hold placards with inscriptions such as ‘Ojelabi Must Go’ and ‘We Want Fresh Leadership’ while chanting slogans and singing protest songs.

Due to the protest, security has been beefed up around the House of Assembly complex, which has led to heightened tensions among staff and members of the public in the area.

To avoid breakdown of law and order, several police officers have been deployed to the House of Assembly to maintain peace and calm tension.

As a means of succour to the protesters, the Lagos state deputy governor, Kadri Hamzat, visited the scene and assured the protesting members that the ongoing issue would be resolved as soon as possible.
