Despite appeal, Natasha vows to resume Senate duties Tuesday

Must read

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has affirmed that she will return to the Senate on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, following a court judgment in her favour, even as Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed an appeal challenging the decision.

While speaking at a training programme in her constituency on Saturday, the senator revealed that she had officially notified the Senate of her planned resumption.

“I still have about two months left before the six-month period runs out. I’ve written again to the Senate, informing them that I’ll be returning on Tuesday, the 22nd, by God’s grace,” she said.

“I will be there because the court gave a decision on the matter. Some argue whether it’s an order or not, but it’s still a valid judgment,” she added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended earlier in March over allegations of misconduct. Her legal team challenged the suspension, and a recent court ruling declared it unlawful. However, the Senate has appealed the ruling.

She noted that while the suspension limited her ability to perform legislative tasks such as introducing bills and motions, it did not prevent her from carrying out development projects for her constituents.

“Lawmakers have three main responsibilities—making laws, oversight of government bodies, and representing the people. I’ve continued to focus on the needs of my constituency and have ensured they are reflected in the national budget,” she explained.

Although she has been away from plenary sessions, Akpoti-Uduaghan said she remains committed to her duties and looks forward to resuming her role at the Senate.
