Anambra PDP’s guber candidate battling for life after gunmen attack in Abuja

Must read

Chief Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election, narrowly escaped death after being ambushed by armed men in Abuja on Friday night.

According to Blueprint, the shocking assault took place in Wuse Zone 2, where unknown assailants sprayed bullets at the politician and members of his team.

Ezenwafor sustained several gunshot wounds and is currently admitted at a private medical facility in the Federal Capital Territory, where he is awaiting emergency surgery to extract bullets embedded in his body.

Describing the ordeal as life-threatening, the PDP candidate, speaking weakly from his hospital bed, told Blueprint: “I’m currently in the hospital. The doctors are making efforts to operate me so that they can pull out bullets from my body.”

Two individuals who were in his company during the attack were also shot and are currently receiving treatment.

While no group has claimed responsibility, some members of the PDP believe the assault may be linked to political tensions ahead of the November 2025 election.

With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) already initiating voter registration, the stakes for the election remain high.

Law enforcement agencies have yet to issue a formal update, though insiders confirm that an investigation is underway to bring the attackers to justice.

The PDP has since condemned the attack and is urging authorities to ensure the safety of all political contenders.
