Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of unlawfully diverting N100 billion every month from the federation account, amounting to over N1.5 trillion in the last 15 months.
El-Rufai made the claims in a widely circulated interview on Arise TV, which has sparked intense reactions on social media.
The former FCT Minister labelled the deductions as unconstitutional and impeachable, insisting they lack the required backing of the National Assembly.
“Every month, President Bola Tinubu deducts ₦100 billion from the Federation Account. This is unconstitutional and an impeachable offence,” El-Rufai said in the interview, which was also posted by user @omoluabi1sq on X.
He alleged that the deducted funds are being directed to security agencies, despite the worsening insecurity nationwide.
“For the last 12 to 18 months, every month, N100 billion is deducted from the federation account and sent to the security agencies. Why then is there no improvement?” he asked.
El-Rufai criticised the lack of transparency surrounding the allocations, claiming that neither federal nor state legislatures gave approval.
“The M100 billion that leaves the federation accounts, by the way, is without appropriation by the National Assembly, without appropriation by the State Assembly,” he added. “The entire reduction in expenditure is unconstitutional.”
