The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fully digitize operations within the Civil Service by December 31, 2025, as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and accountability in public administration.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, gave the assurance during an official visit to the National Shared Services Centre and Corporate Headquarters of Galaxy Backbone Limited in Abuja.
According to her, over 34,000 civil servants across the country have already been onboarded onto the Galaxy Backbone-powered “War Room” initiative.
The platform facilitates the deployment of official government email (GovMail) to streamline communication and enhance service delivery.
She commended Galaxy Backbone for its extensive infrastructure, noting that the agency has successfully extended fibre connectivity to 28 states. She described the reach as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
Walson-Jack, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Adeladan Rafiu, and other senior officials, inspected critical facilities such as the Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC), and the Uptime Institute-certified Tier III Data Centre.
These facilities are designed to support secure, scalable, and sovereign digital infrastructure for public sector operations.
Speaking after the inspection, the HCSF expressed a renewed confidence in Galaxy Backbone’s capacity to drive digital governance, saying, “This visit has opened my eyes to the enormous potential and capabilities that Galaxy Backbone offers. It is clear that this agency is not just an ICT provider but a vital partner in achieving a modern, efficient, and paperless Civil Service.”
She also emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between her office and Galaxy Backbone in several key areas, including the full rollout of the 1Government Cloud to host and manage operations of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the adoption of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) for automated records and workflow management, and capacity building through synergies between the 1Government Cloud Academy and the Civil Service Academy.
In response, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to support the Federal Government’s digital governance agenda.
“This visit aligns perfectly with our mandate to enable Nigeria’s digital transformation, and we are committed to providing the technological backbone needed for that vision,” Adeyanju said.
