John Odigie-Oyegun, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Edo State, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant political shift.
The veteran politician was formally welcomed into the ADC on Tuesday after completing his registration in Benin City, Edo State.
His membership card was presented to him by the ADC State Chairman, Kennedy Odion, during a brief ceremony.
At the event, Odion highlighted Oyegun’s long-standing role in shaping Nigeria’s political coalitions, recalling his central role in the 2013 alliance that formed the APC, which later defeated the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
“He knows the formula for building successful coalitions and has done it before. With his experience and roots in Edo, he’s the right person to guide this movement,” Odion said.
Oyegun, who played a key role in choosing ADC as the platform for a new coalition, said several parties were considered.
Still, ADC stood out for its dedication to the national interest. “We met with about seven parties, and after thorough consultations, ADC emerged as the clear choice,” he said.
