A mob in Maav-Ya, a village in Nyihemba district of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State, has lynched three young men accused of robbery, in a gruesome act of jungle justice.
According to the police, the incident happened at about 11 a.m. on July 15 when irate youths captured the suspects, identified as Zwanen Terzungwe, Iordepuu Gwa, and Aondongu Terna, and marched them to the local council hall.
There, without trial or investigation, the suspects were severely beaten until they died.
By the time police operatives arrived at the location, the perpetrators had dispersed. The bodies of the deceased were later moved to the mortuary at Kwande General Hospital.
In response, security officials condemned the mob action, urging residents to always report crimes to law enforcement instead of resorting to extrajudicial measures.
A manhunt is now underway to track down those responsible for the killings.
