The Southern Governors’ Forum has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his passing as a major loss to the nation.
In a statement released on behalf of the Forum’s Chairman, Governor Dapo Abiodun, through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the governors noted that Buhari’s demise marks a solemn moment for the country.
“The Southern Governors’ Forum extends heartfelt condolences to the entire nation on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. His death calls for deep reflection on a lifetime devoted to public service and the unity of Nigeria,” the statement read.
The Forum acknowledged Buhari’s two-time leadership of the country and praised his dedication to national development, security, and democratic progress. It highlighted his efforts to improve citizens’ welfare and confront the many challenges facing the country.
“His vision for a stronger and more united Nigeria was evident throughout his administration,” the Forum stated.
“He worked to strengthen democratic values, foster national stability, and ensure that every Nigerian felt a sense of belonging in a diverse society.”
The governors also commended Buhari’s enduring influence on Nigeria’s political journey, noting that his contributions to governance and national unity would continue to inspire generations to come.
As the nation mourns, the Forum urged Nigerians to uphold the ideals the late president stood for—especially peace, unity, and sustained development.
“We must honour his memory by continuing to pursue the values he held dear. His legacy of service and commitment should guide today’s leaders in shaping a better future,” the statement added.
