FG cancels Tuesday FEC session for Buhari’s burial

Must read

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting initially slated for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, has been called off by the Federal Government to honour the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, the cancellation aligns with preparations for Buhari’s final burial rites in Daura, Katsina State.

“His remains will arrive from London tomorrow by noon, after which he will be committed to Mother Earth in his hometown, in accordance with Islamic rites,” the statement read.

To mark the solemn occasion, the Federal Government has also declared Tuesday a public holiday nationwide.

President Tinubu had earlier convened a special FEC session in tribute to Buhari, lauding him as “a patriotic statesman who served the country with dedication and integrity.”

However, the meeting will now be held on a later date to be announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

Buhari, who led Nigeria as a military Head of State between 1984 and 1985 before serving two civilian terms from 2015 to 2023, passed away in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13, after a prolonged illness.
