As Lagos State prepares for the 2025 local government elections scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. today, early morning observations across the state indicate minimal security presence and little restriction on movement.
The election is set to take place across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
As of 6:30 a.m., major roads in several parts of Lagos remained open, with no visible roadblocks or deployment of security personnel.
The atmosphere remained calm, with light vehicular and pedestrian activity reported in areas such as Abule Egba, Command Road, and Iyana Ipaja.
In the Ekoro area of Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA, Western Post correspondents observed a handful of residents walking and a few motorcycles and tricycles operating freely.
A similar scene played out in the Aguda Ogba axis of Ikeja, particularly along the Grammar School stretch, where vehicular movement was sparse.
By 7:52 a.m., two security patrol vehicles were seen in the Omole Phase 1 area.
In Alimosho’s Mosan Okunola axis, a few residents were seen trekking along the road, while commercial tricycles moved without restrictions as of 7:30 a.m.
Despite the low-key atmosphere early on, the state government has urged citizens to come out and participate peacefully in the polls.
Voting is expected to commence in all designated polling units by 8:00 a.m.
