PDP not bothered by ADC coalition in Bauchi – Party leader

Must read

A key figure within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Bala Chiroma, has dismissed the emergence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political coalition, stating it poses no challenge to the PDP’s dominance ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an interview with journalists in Bauchi, Chiroma—who serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Youth to Governor Bala Mohammed—stressed that the ADC lacks the structure, reach, and influence required to rival the PDP in the state or nationally.

According to him, the ADC should not be mistaken for a traditional political party like the PDP, but rather a loose coalition without solid grassroots presence.

“Unlike the PDP, which has remained consistent and deeply rooted across all 774 local government areas since 1998, the ADC is merely an alliance of defectors without firm political footing,” he said.

Chiroma argued that the PDP is the only party in Nigeria that has maintained its name, identity, and structure since inception, while other parties, including the APC and ADC, emerged from internal disagreements within the PDP.

He expressed doubt about the ADC’s ability to make meaningful impact in the 2027 general elections, especially since it lacks visibility among ordinary Nigerians and has no well-established network at the grassroots level.

“With elections less than a year away, it’s clear that most people don’t even know what ADC stands for, let alone recognize any tangible structure they have,” he said.

Chiroma also criticized those who recently joined the ADC, many of whom he said rose through the ranks of the PDP and benefited from the party’s platform. He described their defection as ungrateful and politically misguided.

“These are individuals who gained recognition under the PDP but are now turning against it for personal gains,” he said.

He maintained that only the PDP is capable of addressing Nigeria’s current challenges, and called on Nigerians to rally behind the party rather than support what he called “opportunistic alliances” like ADC and APC.

Meanwhile, the ADC in Bauchi has claimed to be gaining momentum. The party’s state chairman, Hassan Haruna, told Arewa PUNCH that the ADC has welcomed influential political figures, including former governorship hopefuls Abubakar Sadiq and Halliru Jika.
