The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports of a northern conspiracy to thwart President Bola Tinubu’s potential reelection bid in 2027, describing such claims as unfounded and deliberately misleading.
Speaking at a media roundtable hosted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone B in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday, the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, firmly denied allegations of a regional gang up against the president.
Bashiru, who condemned the rumours as “a lie from the pit of hell,” insisted that President Tinubu continues to enjoy widespread acceptance and support across northern Nigeria.
“There is no truth whatsoever in the claim that the North is ganging up against President Tinubu,” he stated.
“I speak from an informed position. I am not someone who deals in speculation. As Amilcar Cabral said, ‘Tell no lies, claim no easy victories.’”
He pointed to recent events in states such as Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, and Gombe as proof of the president’s enduring popularity in the region.
According to him, the warm reception Tinubu received during visits and the continued public praise including viral songs like Dauda Kahutu Rarara’s Omo Ologo demonstrate strong northern alignment with his leadership.
Bashiru further took a swipe at the newly announced opposition coalition, branding it as a “mushroom contraption” lacking credibility and filled with politically irrelevant figures motivated solely by personal interest.
He maintained that the APC remains firmly united and confident in the president’s nationwide support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
