Thomas Partey, a former midfielder for Arsenal, has been formally charged with multiple sexual offences by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom.
According to a report by the BBC, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed it approved the charges after reviewing evidence submitted by investigating officers.
In a statement released on Friday, the CPS said, “The Metropolitan Police has been authorised to charge Thomas Partey, 32, of Hertfordshire, following the receipt of a case file from detectives. He now faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.”
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, during Partey’s time with Arsenal.
His contract with the club officially ended earlier this week.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is overseeing the investigation, emphasized the police’s ongoing support for the alleged victims.
“Our priority is ensuring the wellbeing of the women involved. We urge anyone affected by this case, or anyone with relevant information, to reach out to our officers,” Furphy said. He added that those wishing to contact investigators can do so via email at [email protected].
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
