There was unrest in Ancha Village near Agan Toll Gate in Benue State’s Makurdi Local Government Area on Friday after suspected armed herders reportedly opened fire on security operatives.
As learnt by AFRIPOST, the officers were said to be responding to a distress call from residents who noticed herders grazing cattle on cultivated farmlands behind the village.
According to eyewitness accounts, the security personnel were ambushed upon arrival as the suspected herdsmen unleashed a barrage of gunfire.
A gun battle ensued, leading to widespread panic and forcing many locals to flee into the surrounding bushes for refuge.
At the time this report was compiled, the number of casualties or arrests had not been confirmed.
However, additional security reinforcements were reportedly sent to the area to restore calm and safeguard lives and property.
