At least four people were rescued after a three-storey building collapsed early Thursday morning on Lagos Island.
The building, located at 2/4 Asesi Lane near Adeniji Adele Road, came down without warning, prompting an emergency response from various rescue agencies.
Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the incident in a statement posted on his Facebook page, noting that the victims had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
“A three-storey building has collapsed on Lagos Island. It is not yet clear what caused the collapse at 2/4 Asesi Lane (SASI Palace), Adeniji Adele Road,” Omotoso said. “Four persons have been rescued from the rubble and taken to hospital.”
Emergency response teams including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Police were quickly deployed to the site and are continuing rescue efforts.
Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the collapse or if more victims remain trapped under the debris.
