Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has taken on a new political role as the Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on his decision to join the party’s leadership, Aregbesola criticised the current state of politics in Nigeria, describing most political parties as lacking genuine ideology and driven mainly by the pursuit of power and personal interests.
He noted, “The ADC may not be perfect, but it stands for something meaningful. It was born out of resistance, driven by a clear vision, and led by individuals committed to justice, dignity, equality, and inclusiveness. It has character and soul — it is a real platform for people to express their hopes and values.”
Aregbesola contrasted this with what he described as a troubling trend among other political parties in the country.
“In Nigeria today, many political parties have no real ideological foundation,” he said.
“They exist merely as vehicles for power struggles and personal ambition. There’s little focus on policy or principle, and even less concern for the welfare of the people or the progress of the nation.”
