David Mark quits PDP, formally joins ADC

Must read

Former Senate President, David Mark has officially ended his affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he helped establish and supported for decades.

Mark’s exit from the PDP follows his recent appointment as one of the interim leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has become the new political base for a growing opposition coalition.

In a resignation letter dated June 27 and personally signed, Mark cited the worsening leadership crisis within the PDP as the primary reason for his departure, expressing disappointment over the party’s internal disunity and dwindling credibility.

In the statement, he wrote, “I extend warm regards to the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly those in Otukpo Ward 1, Benue State, and across Nigeria. I wish to formally notify you of my immediate resignation from the party.”

Mark reflected on his long-standing commitment to the PDP, noting that he remained loyal even after the party’s loss in the 2015 presidential election, when many stakeholders left.

He said his efforts to rebuild and reposition the party played a key role in restoring its national visibility.

“Despite my deep loyalty and continuous efforts toward reconciliation and rebuilding, the persistent internal conflict and lack of unity have stripped the PDP of its former strength and reputation,” he said.

He added that after consulting widely with family, close allies, and political associates, he had made the decision to align with the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria.

According to him, the move reflects a broader mission to defend democracy and work toward national recovery.
