2027 presidency: Peter Obi officially submits single-term plan to opposition alliance

Must read

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, has formally offered to serve just one four-year term if elected president in 2027, an initiative aimed at uniting opposition forces behind his candidacy.

Dr. Yinusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, made the revelation during a ceremony where Obi received the traditional title of Sarki Maskan (War Hero).

Tanko explained that Obi’s proposal is rooted in his belief that four years is sufficient to initiate critical reforms and drive meaningful national development.

“We’ve submitted the proposal to the opposition coalition, and the decision now lies with them. But we believe this approach is both practical and promising,” Tanko stated.

He praised Obi’s stance as a reflection of integrity and a strong sense of purpose, adding, “Peter Obi represents the leadership quality Nigeria desperately needs, one built on honesty and clear vision.”

According to Tanko, Obi’s agenda centres on revitalising the country’s productivity, boosting exports, and fixing the power sector, which he sees as essential for broader economic revival.

“Although the constitution doesn’t limit a president to one term, Obi’s voluntary commitment shows his readiness to hit the ground running and deliver immediate impact,” Tanko added.

Obi himself had earlier confirmed during a live session on X Spaces that he intends to run in 2027 and is determined to complete his mission within a single tenure.
