Police deny sealing PDP secretariat

Must read

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed claims that it sealed the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Monday.

AFRIPOST had reported earlier that a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former National Secretary, Ibrahim Tsauri alleged that police operatives prevented them from gaining access to the party’s Wadata Plaza secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, where a scheduled meeting was to hold.

According to him, the officers claimed they were acting on “orders from above” and insisted no gathering would be allowed at the premises.

However, the FCT Police Command has refuted the allegation.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the police described the report as “false, misleading, and not a true reflection of the situation on ground.”

Adeh clarified that officers were deployed to the area purely for the purpose of maintaining peace and public safety, in line with their constitutional responsibilities.

“The FCT Police Command is aware of the news making the rounds alleging that the police sealed off the PDP secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja,” the statement read.

“The command wishes to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and does not reflect the true situation on ground.

“Police officers were only deployed to the venue to maintain law and order and ensure public safety. At no point was the secretariat sealed by the police.”

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, also urged media outlets to verify reports through the appropriate police channels before publishing.
