I will honour single-term deal, hand over power to North in 2031 – Peter Obi

Must read

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, has openly stated he would be willing to serve only one term if such a condition arises from a coalition agreement, pledging to hand over the presidency to the North by 2031.

Obi made this commitment during a live X (formerly Twitter) Space tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, where he emphasised that his political ambition is not driven by desperation for power but by a genuine desire to see Nigeria thrive.

“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031, not even May 29,” he said in response to a question from a listener identified as Balactic.

With over 10,000 people tuning in live and nearly 3,000 audience reactions, Obi reaffirmed that for him, personal ambition comes second to national progress.

“I am not desperate to be president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he declared.

The former Anambra governor also stressed that honouring coalition agreements and zoning arrangements would be a demonstration of “political maturity.”
