Fresh violence erupted in Benue State on Sunday following a gun duel between soldiers and suspected armed herdsmen close to Tse Asha and Ukange communities in Guma Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the exchange of gunfire was intense and occurred just about two kilometres from the Ortese Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.
This sparked panic among displaced persons living in the area, who are already grappling with insecurity and trauma.
A local resident, Zege Orkwande, told Daily Post that the sound of gunshots echoed throughout the area, causing residents to flee in fear.
He added that, as of Sunday afternoon, there was still no official word from security authorities concerning the skirmish, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty.
