Rivers tensions ease as Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule appear together at burial ceremony

Just 48 hours after another round of reconciliation efforts at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, made a rare joint appearance.

The trio, entangled in a prolonged political feud, were spotted at a funeral ceremony in Rumueprikom, the hometown of Wike, located in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

This public reunion follows a peace dialogue convened by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the longstanding rift that has plagued Rivers State politics.

Among other high-profile attendees at the event were Senators Allwell Onyesoh, George Thompson Sekibo, and Olaka Nwogu. Also present were ex-Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chibudom Nwuche, former lawmaker Ken Chikere, APC South-South Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and ex-PDP Deputy National Chairman Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.

Though the gathering remained non-political in nature, the joint presence of the warring parties has stirred renewed optimism that the political deadlock, which prompted a state of emergency declaration three months ago, may soon be resolved.
