Obi applauds Ganduje’s exit, encourages other ailing leaders to resign

Must read

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential flag bearer in the 2023 elections, has commended Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for stepping down as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a respectable decision and a model for other public office holders facing health-related issues.

Ganduje, who previously governed Kano State, tendered his resignation on Friday, attributing his exit to health concerns and a desire to focus on recovery.

Reacting on his verified X handle, Obi praised the move as a responsible and selfless act, noting that public leadership should not be held at the expense of one’s health.

“Resigning on the grounds of ill health is an admirable and thoughtful action,” Obi stated.

“It shows a clear understanding of the demands of leadership and a willingness to do what is best for the country.”

He further emphasized the need for physically and mentally capable leaders, adding that Nigeria can no longer afford the recurring setbacks caused by medical trips abroad, prolonged absences, or the challenges of aging leadership.

“Dr. Ganduje’s resignation sets a worthy example,” Obi noted. “I hope others in similar positions will consider this and act accordingly.”
