The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu to its National Working Committee and postponed its planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting initially scheduled for June 30.
This decision was announced on Wednesday after a consultative meeting involving party leaders and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking during a press briefing at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, said the move, though not easy, had the support of key party organs and leaders.
Damagum, accompanied by notable figures such as Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, explained that Senator Anyanwu had been readmitted to his role as National Secretary.
“Bringing back Senator Samuel Anyanwu was a difficult but necessary choice. It was endorsed by the majority of stakeholders within the party structure,” Damagum stated.
He also clarified that the party would no longer hold its NEC meeting on June 30 due to INEC’s position that it had not been officially informed. Instead, an expanded caucus session will be held on that date to deliberate on the way forward.
