Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday paid a visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at his private residence — a move seen as a possible attempt to ease political tensions between the two leaders.
The visit was made public through a post by the Governor Alia Media Centre on its official X handle, where it was described as a step towards fostering peace in the state.
“His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, visited the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, at his private residence this morning. Peace is non-negotiable in Benue! A strong step toward lasting peace,” the post read.
Both Alia and Akume are influential figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue, but have reportedly been at odds politically in recent times.
Though the exact reasons for the friction have not been confirmed, it is believed that the disagreement stems from struggles over control of the APC’s political structure in the state.
The meeting is being viewed by political observers as a potential step towards reconciliation, which could help restore unity within the party and strengthen its position in Benue ahead of future political activities.
