Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu, claiming the President’s time in office has been marred by widespread disapproval and failure in key sectors.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Monday night, El-Rufai said Tinubu’s administration has not only failed in governance but is also overwhelmingly rejected by citizens, particularly in the North and Southeast.
“We conducted opinion polls across the country, especially in the North and Southeast. President Tinubu’s disapproval rating stands at 91%,” El-Rufai stated.
“Even in Lagos, where he should have strong support, he’s facing a 78% disapproval rate.”
The former governor, now a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said that even in the President’s stronghold, the Southwest, approval ratings are dismal.
“In the Southwest, he’s doing slightly better in states like Ekiti and Ondo, but nowhere does he have more than 50% approval,” El-Rufai noted. “The man is finished.”
El-Rufai argued that the Tinubu government has stumbled badly on issues of security, economy, and trade policies, saying Nigerians must begin to question whether they are better off than they were before May 29, 2023.
“If your life has improved since Tinubu took over, that’s okay. But if not, why not try another leadership option?” he asked.
He further criticised the government’s revenue management, stating: “They’re collecting a lot of money, but it’s unclear where it’s going. There are no tangible outcomes to show for it.”
