The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that the Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, was violently attacked and forced to resign under duress by a group of about 30 individuals allegedly led by his Chief Security Officer and Chief of Staff.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 1:40 p.m. on June 20, 2025, at the council secretariat.

According to a statement issued by the police on Sunday, the gang stormed the secretariat, physically assaulted Iheanachor, and compelled him to sign a resignation letter, which later circulated on social media platforms.

Disturbing videos of the incident surfaced online over the weekend, showing Iheanachor being harassed and physically attacked within the council premises.

Another official, the council secretary identified as Mr. Alabi, was also seen in the footage being manhandled by the same group.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, described the attack as a serious criminal act and said the command is thoroughly investigating the matter.

“The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply concerned about the violent assault on Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government,” Iringe-Koko said in the statement.

She identified the alleged ringleaders as Mr. Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer to the administrator, and the Chief of Staff. Both are accused of orchestrating the attack and leading the mob.

The suspects reportedly seized the administrator’s mobile phones and removed sensitive documents from his office.

Iheanachor, who sustained injuries during the incident, is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

In response, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the scene along with other top security officials.

He has ordered a thorough investigation and directed all individuals involved, including the CSO and CoS, to report to the State Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt for questioning.

“The police will not tolerate this kind of lawlessness. Any failure to comply with our directives will attract serious consequences,” the command warned.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding peace and order in the state and urged the public to remain calm and support ongoing investigations.
