Gunmen have unleashed fresh terror on Plateau State, killing no fewer than 15 people in separate attacks on two local government areas, Mangu and Bokkos, on Thursday night.
The assailants reportedly struck at different times, targeting Manja community in Chakfem kingdom of Mangu and Tangur community in Bokkos.
According to locals, the raid on Tangur occurred around 9 p.m. when most residents were already retiring for the night, while the attack on Chakfem happened earlier in the evening.
Eyewitnesses disclosed to the media that the gunmen broke into homes and fired randomly before vanishing.
A community member noted, “They came shooting indiscriminately and went from house to house, causing chaos and panic.”
Reliable sources confirmed to Daily Trust that seven people were killed in Mangu and eight in Bokkos.
Shohotden Mathias Ibrahim, who serves as the Director of Culture for the Mwaghavul Development Association and oversees the IDP camp at Pilot Science in Mangu, affirmed the Mangu death toll to the aforementioned publication.
He said, “Tension is high right now. People are scared and confused about what’s coming next.”
Efforts to reach leaders in Bokkos yielded no immediate responses.
Similarly, the Police Public Relations Officer for Plateau State, Alfred Alabo, did not return calls or messages as of Friday morning when this report was filed.
